Braces

Traditional Metal Braces

Metal Braces consist of metal brackets glued to the teeth. These brackets act as handles which can be pushed and pulled by wires to move the teeth. These wires need to be tied to the brackets to push on them and this is usually done with little coloured rubber bands or “O” rings.   These also ensure the patient doesn’t get bored with the treatment, especially teenage children.

Self-Ligating Braces

Self-Ligating Braces

Self-ligating braces are braces with brackets that do not need the small rubber bands that hold the wire in place. The brackets themselves have a sort of trap door that holds the arch wire in place. This creates less friction between the wire and the bracket allowing for more efficient and therefore quicker tooth movement.

Tandem Appliance

A Tandem appliance is temporarily fixed to the upper and lower first large back teeth. With the help of elastics and a special removable section, this corrects an upper jaw that is positioned too far back. The elastics and removable section are worn at night only. We use these to replace the old fashioned “head gear”.

Mara & Riconator

The MARA (Mandibular Anterior Repositioning Appliance) is a powerful and effective bite corrector and is used to reduce/correct the excessive horizontal overlap between upper and lower front teeth commonly referred to as an "overjet". The Riconator is also used to correct a smaller overlap between upper and lower teeth.

Removable Plates

Removable appliances fit inside the mouth and develop the size of the jaw to the ideal dimensions. A small jaw usually results in “crowded” teeth. These can be made in many exciting colours.
